This position will work to support, promote, and broaden awareness of component districts’ programs, services, goals, events, etc. The candidate will have experience and knowledge of different social media platforms and communication tools to post content supporting organizational strategic goals.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is professional public relations work with responsibility for developing and implementing a program of planned and strategic two-way communication, which also includes publicizing and distributing information about school district or BOCES news, events, programs, services and facilities.  Employees in this class maintain close contact and cooperate with policy-making officials, school staff, local media representatives and the public. Work is performed independently in accordance with established policies and practices.  Supervision of program projects and activities may be required.  Does related work as required. 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Works closely with school district and/or BOCES administrators and staff to assess communications needs, opportunities and strategies;
  • Plans, develops and produces a wide-range of communications strategies and materials for both internal and external audiences, including but not limited to newsletters, brochures, press releases, news articles, fact sheets, presentations, special reports etc.;
  • Assists in analyzing and explaining school district budgets, student testing and achievement data and/or other complex information related to school programs, policies and operations;
  • Attends meetings and maintains records of information released.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of journalism and public relations;
  • Good knowledge of appropriate media sources for dissemination of information;
  • Good knowledge of English usage, spelling, punctuation and grammar;
  • Ability to read, interpret, analyze and summarize complex written documents;
  • Ability to acquire a knowledge of school district operations and complex educational issues;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to express oneself effectively in both oral and written form;
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Teacher of the Visually Impaired Instructors are expected to:

• Have ability to work with a diverse population of students.
• Provide students with a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.
• Collaborate and consult with school organizations, community organizations, therapists, doctors, colleagues, parents regarding recommendations, modifications, and provide resources to meet student learning needs.
• Instruct students in Braille code.
• Perform Functional Visual Evaluations and Learning Media Assessments.
• Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders.
• Record and report student progress.

This is a competitive position. Must meet the requirements of the Ontario County Civil Service. This position will be filled from an eligible list at Ontario County Civil Service.

This is a NYS HELPS approved title for WFL BOCES through June 2026 through NYS Civil Service. Similar to Non-Competitive positions, this temporary approval waives the examination requirement for this title for all hires made during this temporary period. Interested candidates who are approved by the Ontario County Civil Service for the title based off of the required qualifications and experience outlined in the job description will be eligible for a probationary appointment if selected.

Tutors 2025-2026 School Year

Tutors provide tutoring services to students who are capable of benefitting from instruction but are unable to attend school and/or unable to learn in the traditional classroom environment. 

The Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES provides Tutors to a wide geographical area.  Tutor candidates who are screened, interviewed, and referenced may be presented to the Board of Education for approval.  Tutor candidates will be required to complete onboarding paperwork, trainings, and provide further information related to areas of expertise and interest. 

This position is posted for the entire school year and applicants will only be reviewed as requests for services come in for this position throughout the year.  Applicants will only be contacted when a position becomes available.
