Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing high-quality instruction to secondary students in a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, a high level of engagement and eagerness to continue to learn and grow; working collaboratively with other teachers and community members to ensure continued learning of relevant skills and authentic application of those skills; supporting students as they develop a strong work ethic, pride in their work and the foundational skills employers have identified; willingness to develop/grow/promote the program to include all learners; and differentiating instruction to ensure all students experience success. Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher and complete related work as required. The duties of this position may require specific skills and abilities based on the students’ needs and/or program, including but not limited to:

• Ability to work with a diverse population of students.
• Support students to ensure a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.
• Implement specialized instruction to students.
• Collaborate with colleagues and assist teacher to meet student learning needs.
• Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders.
• Assist with maintaining record keeping.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.

Teacher Aide

Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES is hiring Teacher Aides to support students across our Special Education programs throughout the region. This is meaningful, hands-on work where your presence truly matters every single day.

Work Schedule & Benefits

  • 6 hours per day
  • 10-month position following the school calendar (evenings, holidays, and summers off!) with the option to work during summer school
  • Hourly Pay Rate of $16.00 - $18.72 (dependent on experience)

What You’ll Do

As a Teacher Aide, you will:

  • Assist the classroom teacher by performing non-instructional duties to support students with disabilities individually, in small groups and/or test proctoring.
  • Assist with general supervision of students in a multitude of settings including, but not limited to classroom, hallways, lunchroom, and playground.
  • Assist with classroom management of students and monitoring individual student behavior through crisis intervention by implementing positive behavior management strategies or others supported by the program.
  • Perform physical intervention techniques (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) when necessary.
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and safety plans under staff direction
  • Support de-escalation and prevention strategies, and respond to student crises as requested.
  • Assist with the preparation of classroom materials, projects, demonstrations and displays.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans under the direction of certified staff
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA
  • Utilize your own special skills and abilities by assisting the instructional program in such areas as foreign language, arts, crafts, music, recreation, vocational or other similar subject areas when requested/appropriate.
  • Ride the school bus with students and support students in community-based learning activities (work experience, field trips, vocational training).
  • Assist in self-help, personal care activities, including toileting, and mobility for students with disabilities.
  • Willing to continue ongoing professional development in support of program placement.
  • Perform other duties related to specific programs.
  • Complete required training as assigned, including TCI-S
  • Attend meetings, as necessary.

The Summer Extended School Year (ESY) program runs July 8 - August 20, 2026.

The program runs 5 days a week.

Salary: $16.00 - $18.72, based on experience
