Job Description

• Assist with instruction for high school students in a career and technical education program in Health Careers and prepare students for the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) exam.
• Assist with overseeing all labs that provide high school students with hands-on, practical experience in CNA.
• Assist with the implementation of curriculum according to New York State secondary school standards and New York State Department of Health (DOH).
• Assist with arranging for speakers, field trips, community service and shadowing experiences for students.
• Work in a team environment that fosters the philosophy of collaborative planning and an interdisciplinary approach to learning.

Note: The stated salary range is an anticipated hiring range. Final compensation will be based on a review of the candidate's qualifications and relevant nursing and teaching experience.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Month Position, .9 FTE

Job Qualifications

• NYS Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification required.
• Minimum of two years of LPN experience, one of which must be working in a nursing home or long-term care facility.
• Note: Must have valid NYS Teaching Assistant certification or able to complete within 90 days of hire (*based on initial certification workshop offerings for initial certification).  *See certification requirements below
• Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation).

TA Certification Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet New York State requirements for Teaching Assistant certification, including:

• High School Diploma or GED (official transcripts required)
• Passing score on the NYS Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills (ATAS)
• Completion of all required NYSED certification workshops through an approved provider: https://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/workshops-required-for-educator-certification.html
• Fingerprint clearance through the NYSED certification process
• Submission of a completed application to NYSED

 

Certification Information

Teaching Assistants must maintain certification in accordance with New York State Education Department requirements, including completion of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) hours for certificate renewal.
