Job Description

About the position:

The Instructional Coordinator at Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES plays a key role in strengthening teaching and learning across Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES and its component districts. A member of our Staff Development team, this individual partners with our Director for Professional Learning to support teachers in our W-FL BOCES sites to build capacity in instructional practice and classroom management, while advancing high-quality curriculum, assessment, and instructional system. The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of teaching experience, instructional coaching expertise, and knowledge of Special Education programs.

In this role you will: 

  • Assist and guide initiatives for curriculum, instruction, and assessment and provide instructional coaching support to W-FL BOCES teachers
  • Support curriculum mapping and design projects, including curriculum audits
  • Meet with leaders from W-FL BOCES and component districts to create a plan of work in conjunction with the Director of Staff Development and Director of Professional Learning
  • Support P-16 special education curriculum initiatives by promoting inclusive practices, strengthening alignment across educational levels, and enhancing transition pathways to improve outcomes for students with disabilities from early learning through postsecondary education.
  • Stay current with state and regional initiatives and support communicating this work to stakeholders
  • Attend regional and statewide professional development opportunities to strengthen work and expertise
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Staff Development and Director of Professional Learning

Work Location:
This role will provide direct support at our Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES sites. It is expected that you will travel to these sites per schedule that is established with the Director of Professional Learning. You will have an office at the Regional Support Center in Newark and may be asked to support SPED initiatives/work with our component school districts as requested. Additionally, this position may require overnight travel to statewide and national conferences.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Active NYS Teacher Certification
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, including experience in special education.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering professional learning
  • Experience in instructional coaching, mentoring, or teacher leadership
  • Strong understanding of NYS Learning Standards, curriculum development, and data-informed instruction
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, with a strong understanding of IEP development, special education practices, and inclusive instructional strategies
  • Experience supporting lesson design, student engagement, and differentiated instruction
  • Ability to analyze and use assessment data to guide instructional decisions
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Preferred:

  • Strong understanding of the special education service models and the integrated co-teaching models
  • Experience leading school- or district-wide initiatives
  • Understanding of project-based, performance-based, and authentic learning models
  • Commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching practices
