Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES is seeking a School Counselor to support students participating in BOCES-provided Early College Access (ECA) programming under Co-SER 5860. This position is a BOCES base-service role designed to provide centralized counseling, coordination, and student support services across participating component school districts.
The School Counselor plays a critical role in ensuring student success by providing academic guidance, social-emotional support, and program navigation for students enrolled in dual enrollment and early college coursework, while serving as a liaison among students, districts, partner institutions of higher education (IHEs), and BOCES. While specific responsibilities may vary based on needs, key duties include:
Student Support & Counseling
- Provide academic, career, and social-emotional counseling services to students enrolled in Early College Access courses.
- Support students in understanding the academic expectations, rigor, and responsibilities associated with college-level coursework.
- Assist students with course planning, sequencing, and alignment to high school graduation requirements and postsecondary goals.
- Monitor student progress and intervene, in collaboration with districts and instructors, when academic or social-emotional concerns arise.
Early College Program Coordination
- Support communication related to enrollment, registration, reporting, and general program logistics.
- Assist with student onboarding processes, including orientation to college expectations, policies, and support structures.
- Collaborate with BOCES administrators and staff to ensure consistent implementation of Early College Access programming across districts.
District & Partner Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with district counselors, administrators, and instructional staff to support student participation and success.
- Act as a conduit between BOCES and partner colleges/IHEs regarding student supports, reporting requirements, and program communication.
- Participate in Early College Access network meetings, planning sessions, and professional learning activities as required.
Compliance, Reporting & Program Support
- Support BOCES compliance with NYSED guidance related to Early College Access Co-SER services.
- Maintain appropriate documentation related to student participation and counseling services.
- Assist with data collection and reporting needs related to program evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Participate in BOCES-provided professional development related to early college programming, counseling practices, and student support.
