Depending on location, this position may involve direct work with students with autism, emotional and/or developmental disabilities which may include, but are not limited to, oppositional and aggressive behaviors; mood disorders; and potentially severe and unpredictable physical and/or verbal outbursts. Teachers are expected to:
• Ability to work with a diverse population of students.
• Provide students with a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning
• Collaborate with colleagues and provide resources to meet student learning needs.
• Communicate regularly and effectively with parents.
• Record and report student progress.
Students enter the PTECH High School program as 9th graders and work simultaneously toward earning an Advanced Regents Diploma and an A.A.S. degree from Finger Lakes Community College in Information Technology, Instrumentation and Control Technologies or Mechanical Technology, at no cost to the student's family. The 4–6-year sequence emphasizes individualized pathways to completion, mentorships, work-based experiences, in-depth project-based learning, and real-world experiences. This position is part of expanding offerings at PTECH in conjunction with FLCC.
Candidates must have current NYS certification in Technology Education.
Candidates should possess a broad skill set of effective teaching and learning to engage learners of all levels, including but not limited to:
• Knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards and Assessments
• Knowledge of curriculum content and accepted methods of instruction
• Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Promoting equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments
Position requires the successful completion of all elements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. W-FL BOCES provides Initial and refresher TCI Trainings.
