Coordinator of Student Placement

1.0 FTE 

Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES is seeking a collaborative and student-focused professional to serve as our Coordinator of Student Placement. This leadership position plays a critical role in connecting students with educational opportunities, supporting school district partnerships, overseeing student referrals and placements, and helping students achieve academic, career, and post-secondary success.

The successful candidate will work closely with component school districts, students, families, instructional staff, counselors, and community partners to ensure students receive the supports and services needed to thrive.

Essential Responsibilities

Student Placement & Program Coordination

  • Coordinate the student referral, intake, and placement process between component school districts and BOCES programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between districts, families, and staff regarding student placements, program availability, student progress, and areas of concern.
  • Communicate referral, enrollment, and waitlist information as needed.
  • Conduct classroom observations and gather information to assist in appropriate placement decisions.
  • Manage student academic records and placement-related documentation.

Student Support & Career Readiness

  • Provide direct case management and oversight of student placements and program participation.
  • Collaborate with counseling staff and Instructional Pathway Coordinators to ensure compliance with IEP, 504, CDOS, CET, internship, and graduation requirements.
  • Facilitate student connections to internship, job shadowing, and workplace learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate employer interviews and placement opportunities for students.
  • Assist students in preparing for employment and post-secondary education opportunities.
  • Support initiatives designed to improve student achievement and successful outcomes.

District Collaboration & Communication

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with component districts, families, community agencies, and BOCES staff.
  • Facilitate communication regarding student needs, referrals, placement processes, and NYSED initiatives.
  • Support consistent referral and intake practices across component school districts.
  • Promote effective communication among district personnel, students, parents, and community partners.

Program Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist in evaluating and improving instructional and support programs to meet evolving student and district needs.
  • Analyze and utilize data to support program effectiveness and decision-making.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Collaborate with administrators and staff to enhance services and student outcomes.

School Safety & Student Well-Being

  • Support a safe, positive, and secure learning environment for students.
  • Assist with student discipline procedures in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
  • Assist with coordinating the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Threat Assessment Committee.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor student emergency, safety, and crisis plans.
  • Support emergency response and crisis management procedures as needed.

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education, student support services, and secondary education programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • A commitment to student success, educational equity, and positive outcomes for all learners.

Required Qualifications

  • New York State certification as a School Counselor, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, Special Education Teacher, or School Building Leader.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting students through teaching, counseling, case management, administration, or related educational services.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with students, families, school staff, and community partners.
  • Knowledge of special education processes, student support services, and educational programming.
  • Additional minimum qualifications as outlined in the official job posting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven (7) or more years of experience supporting students with diverse academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and transition needs.
  • Experience coordinating student placements, referrals, case management, or related educational services.
  • Knowledge of CDOS requirements, work-based learning programs, internships, and career readiness pathways.
  • Experience analyzing student and program data to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Experience developing and delivering professional learning opportunities for staff.
  • Experience working within a BOCES organization or partnering closely with BOCES programs and services.
  • School or district leadership experience.
