Job Description

We are hiring Regional Summer School Driver Education Instructors at various locations throughout our region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the required NYSED-approved Driver & Traffic Safety Education curriculum (classroom and in-car instruction).
  • Provide structured, safe, and developmentally appropriate behind-the-wheel training, including vehicle operation, defensive driving, and hazard awareness.
  • Assess student progress, maintain attendance and instructional hour logs, and verify completion requirements.
  • Communicate with families and program administrators regarding expectations, performance, and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain vehicle safety protocols, report mechanical concerns, and uphold all BOCES transportation, safety, and NYSED DTSE requirements.
  • Collaborate with program leadership regarding scheduling, student needs, and compliance.

Important Details:

Pay Rate: 

$44.63/hr (Lead Instructor: additional $200.00 total stipend)

Wayne - Finger Lakes BOCES is coordinating Regional Driver Education Summer School programs at the following Districts:

Bloomfield, Canandaigua, Clyde-Savannah, Geneva, Honeoye, Lyons, Marcus Whitman, Marion, Midlakes, Newark, North Rose - Wolcott, Palmyra - Macedon/Marion, Penn Yan, Red Jacket, Romulus, Seneca Falls, Sodus, South Seneca, Waterloo, Wayne, Williamson

 

Additional Information:

  • Driver Education Instructors have the responsibility to retain accurate class rosters, student attendance, and student grades on W-FL BOCES Regional Cooperative Summer School student management system (School Tool). Additionally, all instructors must attend and complete an asynchronous Driver Education instructor orientation on July 1, prior to instructing students or fulfilling duties associated with employment.
  • Lead Instructors have a responsibility to: 
    • Coordinate planning with the participating district to recruit students for the summer, host an orientation for students, and develop class schedules, including specific theory and behind-the-wheel times. 
    • Retain accurate class rosters, student attendance, and student grades on W-FL BOCES Regional Cooperative Summer School student management system.  
    • Submit completed MV 285-R files directly to NYS DMV, under the guidance of W-FL BOCES Principal of Special Programs.  
Job Qualifications

Driver Education instructors must have their valid New York State Driver and Traffic Safety Education (DTSE) certification. Instructors assigned to teach the classroom (theory) component must also submit a copy of their New York State teaching certificate.
