Job Description:
It is the duty of the Distance Learning Specialist to assume the responsibilities assigned in assisting in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluating programs and services to the component districts. Directly responsible to Administrator for Online Learning
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
General
- Provide leadership in the field in the areas of professional development, program and service development, data collection analysis, and student registration.
- Provide support in the integration of regional, state, and national trends in education.
- Be responsive to the needs of the component districts.
- Collect, analyze, and share data relevant to your services and student achievement.
- Maintain a positive, efficient, effective, professional work environment.
- Collaborate with all stakeholders (districts, BOCES, other departments, colleagues, etc.) in order to provide high quality, comprehensive services.
Fiscal Management:
- Provide input into the program expenses and development.
Instruction/Professional Development:
- Work with districts and statewide programs to determine instructional and curricular needs based on data.
- Facilitate weekly progress checks of students/instructors enrolled in courses.
- Schedule, facilitate, and evaluate professional development meetings delivered in a variety of formats.
- Facilitating district, student and parent communication of upcoming deadlines and events.
- Integrate research based/best practices into professional development.
- Orienting and supporting advisors and counselors who support online students
- Serve as a liaison between NYSED, BOCES, the component districts and other relevant professional organizations.
- Participate in relevant and appropriate regional, state, and national organizations.
Title Specific:
- Promote new virtual or distance learning programs and services that relate to the needs of the districts.
- Research best practices and provide guidance in interactive video and online instruction with regards to technology and instructional practices.
- Staying abreast with current technologies in synchronous/asynchronous/video interactive learning.
- Support interactive videoconferencing and online learning.
- Develop and update training materials to help students and district staff to make more effective use of distance learning technology.
